Robin Hood VS Batman

16 oktober 2016 - Nottingham, Verenigd Koninkrijk

This morning we went to Nottingham, a town “forever associated with men in tights and a sheriff with anger-management issues – aka the Robin Hood legend.” We started our trip in the famous Sherwood Forest, which was the home of Robin Hood according to the legend. It is believed he camped and staked out in these woods to pounce on the rich traders and aristocrats in order to feed his men and the poor. The forest is 450 acres of wooded land, luckily we walk through the entire forest. When we arrived it was raining like hell and we all had to cover beneath our umbrella’s, which brought “taking a picture” to a whole other level. The highlight of the tour in the Sherwood Forest was the big Oak Tree, a tree which is more than 800 years old and, as you can see on the picture, needed a lot support to be still standing.

After the Sherwood Forest, we went to Wollaton Park, where a part of Batman: The Dark Night Rises was filmed in 2012. This grand estate sits within 200 hectares of grounds roamed by fallow and red deer. We first went inside the Wollaton Hall, which had the most fabulous staircases I have ever seen! Besides the staircases, there was a huge collection of stuffed animals, not my cup of tea, so we soon went on. We walked around the garden and hoped to see a deer, and luckily we saw two! They were not keen on people so we kept our distance and were able to take some pictures.

We ended our tour in the city centre of Nottingham. We walked to the famous Robin Hood statue, Nottingham Castle and the Old Market Square. At the end of the tour we decided to eat some late lunch at the oldest pub in England; Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem. Which looked so amazing inside, they didn’t change much at all so it looked really old and authentic. There I had some beer brewed in Nottingham (wouldn’t order it again but was a nice try) and the most amazing fish and chips so far. After we had a nice lunch we went back home.
