A pint of Guinness

27 november 2016 - Dublin, Ierland

Last weekend my roommates and me went to Dublin. We arrived Thursday late in the evening, so we decided to get a nice beer at a pub and go to bed ‘early’. The next morning we went to discover Dublin. We started with the Dublin castle and had a nice break at Queen of tarts. Which is an awesome little bakery where they sell the most delicious cakes and sweets. We ate our ‘lunch’ at the Christ church garden and enjoyed the view. After that we went to the St. Patricks Church, which was one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen, even the floor was beautiful! When we had seen the two prettiest churches of Dublin, we went to Trinity college which is a beautiful campus right in the middle of Dublin. We ended our day with a nice pub crawl which brought us to this amazing bar where professional Irish dancers did a routine of the Irish dance!

On our second day we decided to go to Howth, a coast village close to Dublin. We went there by train and did a short hike of about 6 km. On the top of the hill we had an awesome view and we sat and enjoyed that for a while. In order to get down we had to walk around the hill, however Ben had seen a shortcut down the hill…. Which basically was no path at all and we ended up walking through the thorn bushes, let’s just say it was an adventure. When we were finally down, we ate the nicest chowder, which is a kind of fish soup. That night we again ended up in an Irish bar where this time the locals were doing the Irish dance.

On the third day we went on a giant causeway tour, which meant that we left around 8 in the morning and drove up to the north part of Ireland. Our first stop was at the place where kings road from game of thrones was recorded. This was a beautiful road with a lot of huge trees surrounding it. Our second stop was the famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope bridge, which is a rope bridge over the sea. This bridge was so nice and the surroundings were also very pretty. Our last stop was at the Giants Causeway, which totally blew my mind. This is a coast covered in these beautiful stones, which are naturally shaped in kind of stepping stones. It was, in my opinion, the best part of the tour. After this all we got home and had a nice homemade dinner at our hostel.

The last day we went to Guinness storehouse, where we poured our own beers and had a complete tour about the history of Guinness. I must say the first time I tasted the Guinness I thought it tasted like cold coffee, but it has kinda grown on me. I now can say that I quite like it. I loved Dublin but I am determined to go back to Ireland and to hike up in the North.
