A bunch of beautiful Stones and old city

30 oktober 2016 - Stonehenge, Verenigd Koninkrijk

The last few days I have been busy writing essays and papers for the university. However, I have been able to squeeze in a nice trip and some fun activities.

I don’t know if you have noticed but today it is Halloween, so last week my roommates and me all bought a pumpkin. And last Friday we carved them all into little scary pumpkins. They now have a permanent place in our window, scaring (although they are not that scary) everyone who walks past our window.

As I said, I was able to find some free time this Sunday to do a trip again. We went to Stonehenge and Bath, which meant that we had to sit in the bus for about 10 hours in total! On top of the fact that we had to get on the bus at 6 o’clock in the morning, the wintertime also kicked in which made it even harder to wake up at the right time… I set about three different alarms.

Fortunately I woke up at the right time and got on the bus, which took us to our first stop, Stonehenge. Stonehenge is Britain’s most iconic archaeological site as well as one of Britain’s greatest archaeological mysteries. I must say I was quite disappointed to find out that it is forbidden to walk in between the stones. There was a path around Stonehenge where you were allowed to walk. It was quite strange to walk with hundreds of people around a bunch of stones, however it was still nice to have seen and it was a spectacular sight.

After we saw Stonehenge we went to Bath, which is home to some of the nation’s grandest Georgian architecture and one of the world’s best-preserved Roman bathhouses, and therefor is declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in its entirety. We visited the Bath abbey, a beautiful and huge abbey church. After that we took a look at the Pulteney bridge and the famous Circus. Which is a ring of 33 houses divided into three semi-circular terraces, and looks like the Roman Colosseum. And of course we finished our day with a delicious beef and ale pie in a pub.
